Lough Dan Oak Tree project
Each year thousands of scouts come to Lough Dan where they develop an appreciation of our unique natural environment. So on the weekend of the 13 – 14 of March 2010 the Lough Dan Scout Centre invited scouts, patrols and groups to create an oak forest by planting oak trees.
The Valkyrie Troop decided each of our 8 Watches would sponsor an oak tree as part of this very worthwhile project. Many thanks to Lauren Kelly, Ellen Duffy, Emily Molony and Ellen Holloway who headed off to Lough Dan, shovels in hand, and planted our 8 trees.
Funds raised will go towards other environmental projects at Lough Dan such as conservation measures in the mature woodland, bird and bat boxes, management of the wetland habitat, work on dry stone walls and hedges.
