Official Opening of the 'Crow's Nest'

The offical opening if the new den took place today amid glorious sunshine heralded by pipe bands, skiff racing and helicopter flyovers. The task of cutting the ribbon and unveiling a memorial plaque was entrusted to Eoghan Lavelle and Lily Morrissey - the oldest (sorry Eoghan) and the youngest members of 5th Port.

Long Distance Skiff Race

Today's long distance skiff race from Dun Laoghaire, across the Bay and into Dublin Docklands covered a distance of nearly 12 kms. The race took place over three legs, of which the first leg across the bay (7 kms) is by far the longest.  Five teams (3 male and 2 female) took part and after fantastic rows by all three of our crews the Valkyries team came second overall and first female team home.

As first female team home, the Valkyries were proud to receive the Kathleen Ball Memorial Trophy which was presented for the first time this year.
